Working in Surinam

If you want to work in Surinam then you will need a work permit, only a employer or his representative can apply for this work permit . When a apply for a permit is submitted a few documents must be admitted, documents that have to be admitted by a employer are not important for you.(source department work permit foreigners):

  • Four identical and good looking passport photo’s
  • A photo copy of your permit to stay in Surinam
  • A photo copy of you apply for a permit to stay in Surinam, so called VZ strip issued by the minister of justice, police and foreign affairs
  • Your passport valid for at least six months
  • Legalized photo copies of diploma’s and certificates, if these document are in a other languages then Dutch or English they have to be translated by a official translator.

Work permit exemption

Exemption for a work permit will be given to foreigners who are married with a Surinamese

Foreigner who falls within this group can apply free of charge for a free statement document which indicates that no temporary work permit is required. The next documents have to be admitted;

  • Photo copy marriage certificate;
  • Original passport and the passport of their Surinamese partner
  • Citizenship certificate off the Surinamese partner;

a recent document of the people registration office that will proof that he or she is still married with a Surinamese partner.

(R)emigrants of Surinamese origin whit a other nationality then Surinamese with their family as mentioned in article 5 off the so called “toescheidingsovereenkomst”.

When you belong to this group then you can apply free of charge for a free statement document which indicates that no temporary work permit is required. The next documents have to be admitted;

  • Photo copy of the documents that will proof that you are not longer living in your country of origin;
  • Photo copy of your passport;
  • When you were born in Surinam you also have to submit
  • A statement off the Central Office of civilian affairs(CBB) that will proof that you once had the Surinamese nationality.

Foreigners(refugees) who are allowed to stay in Surinam authorized by the minister of home affairs and can proof this by showing there Surinam residence permit.

  • To be eligible for a free statement must admitted a photo copy of his residence permit.

Foreigners who served their country as mentioned in article 1 of the “employees law” (GB 1962 No. 195), in a accordance with that is written in article 1 lid 2 of the law “Work permit foreigners”.

  • Photo copy of your appointment declaration and your original passport(will be given back immediately after been examine)
  • A photo copy of your labor employment whit the state of Surinam and the original passport(will be given back immediately after been examine).

Cost

US 300(or counter value in Surinamese dollars)per submission in cases the foreigner is working in the in land of Surinam and the company is digging for gold. In all other cases SRD 75,–
Also the original document of the photo copies have be showed, immediately after been looked in to they will be given back.
