Education in Surinam is based on Dutch learning methods, there are also many Dutch teachers working in Suriname.

Regular schools

There are two types of schools: the regular normal education and private schools, this form can be found in both primary and secondary education. Regular schools are for the most people of Suriname price technical interesting, there is an annual small fee which is not significant to mention.

Private schools

Besides the regular schools there are private schools, they are quit expensive prices up to  250 to 300 Euros per child monthly are not uncommon. Surinam does not have study financing private schools are entirely at your own expense.

High school

Fore high school education there is a option to go to the Dutch Lyceum, which is also a private school, education is given on VMBO, HAVO and VWO level. University

School uniform

In Surinam the wearing of a school uniforms is required, this eliminates differences between different classes everyone is equal. The concept uniform is not a military outfit but a blouse with matching trousers or skirt.

Disciplin

With some exception of the private schools the teaching language on the schools in Surinam is Dutch.
