Due to a change in the Surinam law people who are visiting Surinam and want to drive a car or motor vehicle need a valid international driving-licence. People who don’t have a valid international driving-licence can obtain a driving-authorization certificate at the police station “Nieuwe haven Paramaribo”. In order to get a driving-authorization the person who is applying must have a valid driving-licence.

 The following documents are needed:

  • Valid national driving-licence
  • Passport fore identification an legal stay in Surinam(visa, residence permit).
  • Recede that the administrative expenses has been paid cost are SRD 150. This amount can be paid at the central payment office or sub payment office.

The driving-authorization certificate shall indicate the related Motor category.

The driving-authorization certificate is valid for a period of 1 year, with the possibility of extension for a period of 1 year. The fee associated with each application for renewal of the driving authorization are SRD 100.
