As a result of a policy modification concerning admission of aliens of the Republic of Suriname, foreigners who need a visa to enter Suriname and who have the intention of staying longer than three months, will have to, as from October 1st, 2008, apply for an Authorization for Temporary Stay (MVK) before they travel to Suriname

Required documents
Once you have a MKV and you want to stay in Suriname fore a period longer than three months then you must have a temporary residence permit. To apply fore this permit you will need the folowing documents:.
- Certificate of good conduct original and copy issued by the municipality where you are registered children under they age of 18 years do not need this
- Birth certificate original and copy
- Duplicate petition addressed to the Minister of Justice and Police children over the age of 18 must submit their request in a separate envelope
- Two adhesive stamps of SRD. 1.50 (available at the post office in Paramaribo) note that this stamp are not postage stamps
- Two recent passport photos per person
- Legal residence (stamp extension visa, immigration police)
- Return flight ticket to country of origin at least valid fore six months
- Admission Form
- Photocopy of all written pages of your passport (Your passport has to be valid fore at least 6 months)
- Marriage certificate original and copy
- If the application is for one of the partners, the other partner has to provide information about his residence. When the last called is Surinamese then this person also have to admit a copy of his/her ID card or passport
- concubine You will need to provide evidence that the person have lived together in the country of origin. Among other things, a society contract and proof of registration

- Not longer necessary proof of deregistration of your former municipality you will not need this anymore when you apply fore your permit, but we recommend to take a copy with you. We also recommend you to take with you a copy of the packing lists of your container. You will not be needing it fore your permit bud you will need it at the customer office.

If you’re documents are written is a language other than Dutch or English, then you must ad a original translation of these documents.

The steps you have to take
Foreign affairs
For extending your visa, you must have a MKV. At the foreign affair office at the Mr. J. Lachmonstreet, you can pick up a petition and an authorization form addressed to the Minister. You will be asked fore the original and copies of the documents mentioned above. When everything is alright you will get a paper strip with a number. Keep it well and always take this paper stripe and your passport with you when you go to the foreign affair office. Clearly put you name, address and telephone number(mobile number if possible) on the envelope. The deposit of the envelope can be done on Monday through Thursday from 0.800 to 13.30 hours. On Friday morning you can inquire about the status of your application. You must pay US. 200(before you deposit the documents) at the Agricultural Bank at the Limapostraat, from the bank you will get a recede take this recede always with you.

Foreign police
There is a possibility that after you submitted your documents you will be called fore a interview. Don’t forget to take all documents with you. After this interview the foreign police will make a report, if everything is alright you can expect a phone cal from the foreign affair office to pick up your permit.
After you picked up your permit you have to go to the foreign police (Mr. J. Lachmonstreet) to get the necessary stamp in you passport(don’t forget to take your pass photo’s with you).
CBB
The next step is the civil registration office CBB(Mr. J. Lachmonstreet) where you have to register your self. At the CBB you will also get a stamp in your passport.
District office
Finally the last registration is at the district office in the resort you live over there you also get some stamps in your passport.
Furniter international moving
Custom clearance furniture (no vehicles), if you move to Suriname you can get exemption on import duties of your furniture. For this exemption you need the following documents:
- A residence permit issued by the Ministry of Justice and Police
- A registration certificate issued by the Central Office for Civil (CBB)
- A letter of your previous place of residence is required
- Your passport with stamps of registration.
To obtain a residence permit takes months, we advise you to start as soon as possible with the application fore your permit. The storage and port cost of your container after arrivingl in Surinam are very high. If you take new things with you then you have to pay tax(35 to 40% off the value of the product and shipping cost). If you have a diplomatic status you don’t pay any import tax.
