CULINARY SURINAM

There is a lot to say about the Surinamese kitchen, which is generally good. In Suriname they have Creole, Javanese, Chinese, Hindu, Dutch and English, kitchens and fast food restaurants, which are generally located in Paramaribo. Outside Paramaribo in most cases there are small shops(warungs), where you can buy Javanese and Creole food. Do not expect culinary delights in Suriname that is something you will not find.

Becarefull

When you are going to eat outside the SUP area or the city of Paramaribo the best thing to do is to avoid as much as possible food displayed in windows who are not closed and food heated in a microwave. Due to the tropical temperature fly eggs on food can bring you in a lot of trouble. When you buy something to drink convinces yourself that the cap on the bottle is sealed. Avoid drinking from a tap, drinking water supplied by the SWM (Surinam water company) is generally good and pure at the well. However the pipes who are bringing the water to the houses are in a poor shape. Therefore it is not possible for the SWM to put much pressure on these pipes so the pipes will not clean them self local people are use to it you’re not.
